Digital Sales Triple while Physical Sales Drop

Don't let the digital music boom pass you by - We are accepting digital sign ups now!

While digital music sales are increasing, physical sales (cd's) are dropping.

MEDIALINE has the following report:

Increased demand for legal music downloads and mobile phones worldwide nearly offset the decline in physical formats as recorded music sales globally fell 1.9 percent ...

digital music sales ... amounted to approximately US$790 million, up from US$220 million in the first half of 2004. This is the equivalent of 6 percent of total record industry sales.

The U.S. saw a drop in physical sales of 5.3 percent in value and 5.7 percent in units, but a counterbalancing strong increase in digital music sales. Sales of single track downloads alone in the U.S. were up almost threefold in the first half of 2005 compared to the same period in 2004, totaling 159 million units, stated IFPI, citing Nielsen SoundScan.

The digital music business is so far being driven largely by the world's top five markets U.S., Japan, U.K., Germany and France but is expected to spread rapidly and will benefit many other markets in the coming months.

If you're an independent artist, band or label, you don't have to wait until the sizzle is off of increasing digital music sales.  We are accepting digital signups now!

Digital Download Service Announced

Musicdistributors.com and Digitalmusicdistributors.net
Announce New Digital Download Service for Independent Artists and Labels

Musicdistributors.com and Digitalmusicdistributors.net announce a new digital download service for Independent Artists and Labels who are tired of watching the digital download boom pass them by.

Fair Oaks, CA, August 30, 2005 – Independent Artists and Labels can now sign up for a new digital download service that allows them to present and sell their music to the worldwide customer base that now prefers to buy music through the internet.

All Independent Artists and Labels are now able to make their music available without encountering the difficulties that exist for the Independent when they try to get their music placed on the big label oriented digital download sites.

The younger buying market that is increasingly tired of having the same music offerings that they find on the more traditional digital download sites now have access to newer music and groups that they have not been able to find as legal digital downloads.

We have been getting calls and emails from Independent Artists and Labels from around the world, including North America, South and Central America, Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia about being able to place their music with us, said Clarence Wigfall, Media Director for Musicdistributors.com and Digitalmusicdistributers.net.  Many artists and labels outside of the United States have a difficult time paying for duplicating and shipping their CD's into the United States and are very excited that now they only have to email us a digital file of any song that they want to make available, he stated.

For more information about this service contact info@musicdistributors.com or visit www.musicdistributors.com and click on “Our Blog”

www.musicdistributors.com and www.digitalmusicdistributors.net is a private company that retails Independent Music worldwide through the Internet.

Digital Music Distributors

Most Digital Dowload services don't want to put your music on their site if you are an independent artist who is not with a label that they recognize or going through another music seller that they recognize.  If you look at the other digital music sales sites that are always in the news you find the same thing.  They just don't want to work with you, the independent artist, label or band.  Simple.

We know that you have music that you want to sell as a digital download, one song at a time or a whole CD at a time, however your audience wants to buy it.

That is why we have decided to make a way for you to be able to sell your music as an independent artist, label or band as digital downloads.

Soon, every artist that is signed up with www.musicdistributors.com will have the  option to go digital.  In fact, most of you won't even want to have to pay for CD production anymore.  You'll just want to sell digitally like the big name artists have been doing.  Think of the savings - money - time - no reproduction hassles.

If you are not already signed up with www.musicdistributors.com, email us at:

info@themusicdistributors.com

and let us know that you are interested in being able to sell your music as digital downloads and let us know that you want to be notified when we are ready.  That way, you will be alerted early so you can get set up and be in on the digital download site as soon as it goes live.  In fact, even if you are already signed up, you can email us and get on the list so you can make sure that you are included when we are ready to go.

We can't think of a better way to increase sales and make the music of independent artists more accessible.

The Digital Download bonanza has been passing by the independent artist, label and band.  We can't see any reason to let the established artists get all the money anymore.

Do yourself a favor and get on our list and email all of your contacts so they can do the same.  The more we have when we go live, the better for everyone involved.

Not Getting Airplay - Does Eliot Really Care?

Ah, the music industry.  You love it - Right?

Celebrities in Southern California have long been known to say that they get targeted by various Prosecutors because, well, because they are Celebrities and if the Prosecutor can find them guilty, then the Prosecutor becomes a Celebrity.  Sounds like a dangerous plan, except maybe the famous Prosecutor figures that he can defend himself better than the average Celebrity.

Actually, over the past few years, the average Celebrity seems to do very well against the Average Prosecutor.  This only becomes important when you start noticing the question being asked about why Eliot Spitzer would think the question of "airplay" would be so important.  WFMU asks about it rather nicely.

At least this way he doesn't have to attack any Celebrities directly.  That's getting too risky.  So now, it's getting safe for you to become a Celebrity.  Don't worry about it - Sell enough music on the Internet and the rest will take care of itself.

Not Getting Radio Airplay - Could this be Why?

You know your music is good.  You know you don't get played by radio stations.

Eliot Spitzer has something to say about why some get played and some don't -

At the news conference in his Lower Manhattan office, Spitzer said payola today was as widespread and "corrosive" as it was in the 1950s.

"It is omnipresent," Spitzer said. "It is driving the industry. And it is wrong. It reaches to the very top of the industry on the radio side and on the label side."

What did he find was really going on?

When executives at Sony BMG needed to drum up support in 2002 for Jennifer Lopez's album "This Is Me … Then," they called the program director of a San Diego radio station and offered her a 32-inch plasma TV in exchange for adding the artist's songs to her play list.

Now, the next time that you ask yourself, "What's Jennifer Lopez got that I don't," you know.

How do the Executives involved feel about this?

In one e-mail that Spitzer released, a station manager who allegedly accepted gifts joked to Sony BMG executives: "I'm a whore this week. What can I say?"

And they wonder why so many artists are going independent and selling their music worldwide through the Internet.

The L. A. Times has the story.

Google Rankings

Tony called and asked me to search music distributors and musicdistributors.  Guess who came up first on the latter and in the top 10 on the former?

He's excited today because he was sending checks out for CD's that have sold.  In a couple of days, a lot more people will be excited and happy about that too - checks in the mailbox are so much nicer than bills.

Radio Play for You?

I still  hear it sometimes - mostly from Independent Artists who haven't figured it out yet - "I need a contract with a Major Label."  Why?  "For the Rdio Play.'

Radio -
Just the place to put your heartfelt - hard won - Love of Your Life Music.

Imagine your love of the owners of Radio:

...as they became wealthy, they put fewer and fewer resources into producing programming that was truly entertaining, enlightening and worth listening to,,,

50% of every radio station in the U.S. started playing the same playlist,,,

...each of these radio stations interrupting their programs with invasive, inane promotions from companies that had little respect for the intelligence of the audience...

Now Imagine Your music on Radio.  For the airplay?  Nah, it's for the Money!

Now Imagine something coming along that cuts out all of that...  It's called the Internet.  Do you really  listen to Radio anymore?  Do you really want your music there?  Ok, we admit, there are a few exceptions.

But we still mostly only listen to them through the Internet.

Internet Sells More Tickets and CD'S

Independent Artists take a look - The Internet is changing Everything.  This article in USA Today tells how the Internet has changed ticket sales to major concerts and why you might not be able to get one.  It also names the types of music that do better with CD sales rather than concerts.  There are a lot lot of lessons in here for everyone who wants to make their music and make enough money to be able to make their music. That's one definition of being Independent, isn't it?
